Liberal Party Criticizes Minister of Justice for Understating Problems

Minister of Justice Ernst Hirsch Ballin (Christian Democrat) criticized parliamentarians as having exaggerated the problems caused by Moroccan youngsters in the town of Gouda. (It is quite common in the Dutch media to mention the ethnicity of criminals.) He was thereupon attacked by the opposition Liberal and Freedom parties. Liberal leader Mark Rutte said that the minister is abandoning Gouda, “People there are afraid that the street no longer belongs to the state. The minister is not taking the signs seriously enough.”
