Gerlach Cerfontaine, the former president of Amsterdam Schipol airport, has admitted that the airport authorities had given residents in the area incorrect information about increased noise. Some communities which previously had not been affected by the noise, are now subject to this problem since the new runway was opened in 2003. They had been told that they would not be affected. Cerfontaine also blamed the then minister Tineke Netelenbos for poor legislation. Netelenbos reacted by saying that the airport had made a serious blunder in calculations.
