Columnist praises attack on newspaper

Author Tommy Weiringa praised in a meeting of Mayors, Aldermen and officials, the terrorist attack on the daily De Telegraaf.  He said they should have done it earlier.  This was met with great laughter, despite the fact that many of the municipal officials have been threatened themselves.

Attack on Daily de Telegraaf

A car was intentionally driven into the front of the Telegraaf building in Amsterdam at night this week. Last week a rocket was shot at the Panorama publication offices which are close by. Many windows were broken and the flames reached 14 meters. A crime journalist from the Telegraaf thinks that the Moroccan mafia, about which the paper writes, may be behind the attacks.

Rotterdam Mayor: “I have been threatened with death”

Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb has said that he has been threatened with death.  This happened after a debate in the municipal council which initially had been requested by the Muslim party Denk.  It concerned the fact that Aboutaleb had permitted a demonstration in front of a mosque by a right wing group.  The Turkish Minister of European Affairs, Ömer Çelik had heavily criticized Aboutaleb in this matter.  Aboutaleb retorted that he should mind his own business.

Italian Minister: “Migrant rescue ship should go to Netherlands”

The Italian Interior Minister, Matteo Salvini has warned a second migrant rescue ship that it will not be able to dock in Italy.  He said that as “the ship is flying a Dutch flag, it should go to the Netherlands.”

Report Public Prosecutor deliberately misled judiciary on fireworks disaster

After a four year investigation, MEP Paul van Buitenen has concluded that the public prosecutor deliberately misled the judiciary on the firework disaster at SE Fireworks in Enschede on May 13, 2000.  Van Buitenen’s report consists of 800 pages.  He concluded that the public prosecutor did not want  the government to be blamed, partly for the explosion.  As a result, 23 people were killed and 950 were injured.  Van Buitenen also concluded that the fire brigade fought the fire in violation of the regulations and hazard statements.  He also says that the National Detective Service who investigated the government services, deliberately omitted a number of issues from their investigation.

Muslim Municipal Counselor Wonders Whether Nazis Were Right

Arnoud van Doorn, a Muslim member of the Municipal Council in the Hague tweeted that he read an interesting article about whether the ‘good people’ won the second World War or were the Nazis the protectors of the European civilization against American Zionism and the communism of Stalin.  He added that there is perhaps a distortion of history here.  A month ago he tweeted “Oh Allah, destroy the Zionists.”

Number of drunk teenagers hospitalized increases

The number of drunk teenagers being hospitalized rose in 2017.  A researcher says that an alcohol induced coma is like hitting a child on the head with a baseball bat.  If you have been that drunk twice, the IQ will drop 10 – 15 points.  The figures show that increasing the age when teenagers can buy alcohol from 16 to 18 has not had an impact on the number of drunk teenagers.

Rabbi Complains to Police about Insults by North-Africans

Amsterdam rabbi Yanki Jacobs has complained to the police about insults by two youngsters with a North-African appearance. They shouted against him and his family from their car “cancer Jews” and “fuck all Jews”. The rabbi was recognizable as being a Jew by his kippa. He said that they passed a number of times in their car in an intimidating way. The rabbi said that such insults occur so frequently that he has begun to consider it normal.

Dutch Turkish media boycott opponent of Erdogan

A Dutch Turkish high school teacher with dual nationality, Arzu Özalp is a candidate for the Turkish elections on behalf of the CHP opposition party. When she tried to interest Dutch Turkish media in her campaign, they initially showed interest but then backed down because advertisers threatened to withdraw their advertisements.  Erdogans AKP Party intend to bring voters in hundreds of buses to the three voting stations in Amsterdam, the Hague and Deventer.

Independent Report on Government Office Building: Resembles Mausoleum or Crematorium

A major rebuild of an office of the government has cost 267 million Euro. After moving there, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Infrastructure  produce less work.  An independent report says it is a disaster to work there.  Bureaucrats have problems with concentration, there are not enough desks, the black elevator columns create associations of a mausoleum or crematorium, and there are long lines at the coffee bar.  The independent report says the borders of what is acceptable have been reached.

Thousands of contaminated Dutch eggs removed from German supermarkets

German supermarkets have removed tens of thousands of Dutch eggs because they were contaminated with the toxic insecticide fipronil.  It concerns around 73 000 eggs from an organic chicken farmer in the Netherlands.  Some of the eggs were already sold before the contamination was discovered. Last year, in the Netherlands thousands of chickens and countless eggs had to be destroyed for the same reason.

Muslim Mayor: Poisonous Anti-Muslim Act Should Go On

Rotterdam Muslim Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb has said that he regretted that the anti-Muslim demonstration of Pegida at the Laleili mosque in Rotterdam was cancelled. He said: However poisonous a message, people should be able to express it. It is a sign of intolerance if such a message cannot be expressed. The anti-Islam group Pegida had received a permission from the mayor for a barbeque of pig-meat in front of the mosque during the evening prayer.

Eindhoven Among World’s Worst Airports

A study of 141 airports worldwide by Airhelp which studied punctuality, service performance, and passenger sentiment placed Eindhoven airport in 132 place or among the ten worst airports in the world.  Eindhoven received 5.9 (out of 10) for punctuality, 7.2 for service performed, and only 5.1 for passenger sentiment.  Its overall score came to 6.39.  The worst airport in the world is Kuwait airport.

Muslims Collect 100,000 Euro for Imam Suspected of Terrorism

The Belgian Moroccan Imam, Tarik Ibn Ali, was last year extradited to Spain on suspicion of recruitment of jihadists via Youtube.  Ali denies the charges. During a session of the Dutch online TV channel,, 100,000 Euro was collected mainly from Dutch and Belgian sympathizers for his defense and the maintenance of his family.  A Dutch terrorism expert, Jelle van Buuren, said financing him possibly comes close to terrorism financing which is a criminal act in the Netherlands.

Investigation Defense Ministry insufficiently protected employees when working with carcinogenic material

An investigation concluded that the Defense Ministry is responsible for serious health complaints by employees of five NATO depots from 1984 to 2006.  These employees were working with chromium 6, a carcinogenic material.  According to the public health institute (RIVM), which undertook the investigation, the Defense Ministry knew about the harmful effects of the substance but didn’t share this knowledge with employees or with Ministry Doctors. After the report, State Secretary Barbara Visser of Defense, apologized.  She added that it happens too often that Defense doesn’t adequately protect the safety of its employees.

Over 40% of Syrian Refugees Have Mental Health Problems

More than 40% of Syrian refugees in the Netherlands have psychological problems such as depression and anxiety.  This was found in a study by the social and cultural planning office, SCP.  Despite these problems they make little use of mental health services.   The SCP interviewed 44,000 refugees who were given refugee status in the Netherlands between January 2014 and July 2016.  The SCP says that 13% of the general population in the Netherlands have mental health issues.  Yet, Syrian refugees make much less use of mental health services than the general population.
