Labor Member: Proposed Government Resembles Fascists or Nazis

Geke van Velzen, a Labor Party member of the municipal council of Amsterdam has compared the proposed government of liberals (VVD) and Christian Democrats (CDA), with outside support of the Freedom Party (PVV), to fascists or Nazis. She called it a ‘brown’ cabinet. Already earlier Evelien van Roemburg of the Green Left party had called the proposed cabinet a ‘brown’ one. Van Velzen was a personal assistant of former Labor Party Leader Wouter Bos. She was heavily criticized by the leader of the Christian Democrats in the Amsterdam municipal council Maurice Limmen.

Leading Church Official: Foreign Minister Political Prostitute

Klaas van der Kamp, the secretary general of the Council of Churches (Raad van Kerken), has accused Maxime Verhagen, leader of the Christian Democrats and minister of Foreign Affairs, of committing political prostitution. Van der Kamp did so at the Church Day of the province of Zeeland. He says that the proposed cabinet of the Christian Democrats (CDA) and the liberals (VVD) – with outside support of the Freedom party (PVV) – focuses on earning money at the expense of human values. The Council of Chuches groups a number of denominations among which the two largest, the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestant Church Netherlands. (PKN)

Amsterdam: Police Passive about 65% of Citizen Complaints

The Amsterdam police undertake no investigations into 65% of the complaints of citizens. The municipality answered this to questions of Municipal Council Member Laurens Ivens of the Socialist Party. The police claims that the figure gives a wrong impression as for thefts the percentage not dealt with is 94% while for physical abuse it is 30%. The Amsterdam police is short of 135 detectives.

Indonesian Ambassador Attacks PVV Voters.

In an interview with Het Financieel Dagblad the Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands said that if the PVV will be a member of the new Dutch government he doubted that the Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhyono would maintain his announced visit to the Netherlands in October. He remarked that the president could not come to a country if in its government somebody calls Islam backward. He added: ‘I do not want my president to be presented here as a clown.’ He observed also: ‘Perhaps those who vote for Wilders suffer from a psychosis.’ The ambassador was called to the Dutch ministry of foreign affairs and apologized thereafter.

European Court: Netherlands is in Breach of European Convention of Human Rights

The European court in Strasbourg has decided that the power of the prosecution in the Netherlands to undertake house searches is too wide as there is almost no control by an independent judge. In this way the Netherlands is in breach of the European convention of human rights. The case in question, which dates from 2002, concerns a Dutch publishing house Sanome.

Muslim Fundamentalists Get Subsidy from Government

The annual report of the General Intelligence Service (AIVD) says that Salafist Muslims have a large network of travelling preachers who give courses throughout the Netherlands to youngsters or operate local centers. They obtain subsidies of local and national authorities for helping with homework, cultural and sport event, or social help. Member of Parliament Coskun Coruz (Christian Democrat) says that these practices have been going on despite Parliamentary complaints. The Christian Democrats and the Liberals and Freedom Party want municipalities to do their utmost to stop these practices.

After Afghanistan: Army Needs 2 Years to become Operational Again

Lieutenant General, Rob Bertholee, commander of the Dutch field army, said that in the coming two years his forces’ capability to operate will be limited. After its mission in Afghanistan much equipment returned damaged, some training activities were neglected and units were fragmented. In addition there is a large financial deficit. ‘The reset’ of the forces is complicated due to the lack of financial means.

Demand for Escort Ladies Peaked During Ramadan

Bookings of escort bureau ‘Society Service’ increased three-fold during Ramadan. These were mainly requested by Arabs and Muslims of large international hotels in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Hague. The main customers came from the Arab Emirates followed by Muslims from India, Indonesia, Egypt and Morocco.

British Terrorism Suspect Arrested at Amsterdam Airport

Dutch military police have arrested at Amsterdam Airport a Somali Briton terrorist suspect. He was on his way from Liverpool to Uganda. Amsterdam has a history of being used by suspected Islamic radicals. It is suspected that the man is part of the radical al-Shahaab group in Somalia. According to Jonathan Evans, the director general of the British General Intelligence service M15 a number of Muslim radicals who have British nationality are training in camps of the organization in Somalia.

Fertility Clinics Accept Neo-Nazi’s Conditions for Sperm Donation

Two Dutch clinics have accepted the sperm donation of a prominent neo-Nazi, Patrick de Bruin. He made it a condition that his sperm can only be used for the infertility treatment of white couples. De Bruin wrote on an extreme right website that his ‘Aryan seed’ was destined to compensate for the high birthrate among Muslims. Some clinics did reject his conditions.

Dutch Soldiers in Afghanistan Broke Geneva Convention

In his new book, journalist Joeri Boom claims that Dutch soldiers in the Uruzgan province in Afghanistan broke the rules of combat during wartime by entering a hospital armed with weapons. A few days after a Dutch soldier was killed by a rocket attack on their base, Dutch soldiers besieged a hospital because they believed that some of the Taliban behind the attack were wounded and in the hospital. The Dutch Ministry of Defense says that indeed entering with weapons into a hospital is a war crime but the Dutch soldiers went into the hospital to ensure that the hospital personnel were not taken hostage by the Taliban. The head of the UN mission in Uruzgan said that the Dutch behavior was a clear breach of the Geneva Convention.

Major Increase in Complaints of Anti-Semitism and Discrimination Against Homosexuals

The number of registered complaints regarding anti-Semitic discrimination increased by 50% in 2009 as against 2008. The number of registered cases of incidents against homosexuals has increased by about 13%. Of all registered cases of physical abuse and public violence, more than one third concern homosexuals. Ronnie Naftaniel, Director of the Center for Information and Documentation About Israel (CIDI), warns that these figures are the tip of the iceberg. Many incidents are not registered. The same reaction was given by the Homosexual Interest Organization (COC). The original data were published by the National Criminality Picture of Discrimination of the Police. These figures contradict the data of the Anne Frank Foundation which based itself on obsolete figures.

Al-Qa’ida: Exchange Murderer of Van Gogh for Western Hostages

The national coordinator of the fight against terrorism writes that the Al-Qa’ida branch in North Africa wants to exchange Mohammed Bouyeri for western hostages. Bouyeri, who in 2004 slaughtered the Dutch media personality Theo van Gogh, is at present serving a life-long sentence in the Vught jail. Al-Qa’ida has called Bouyeri a “martyr” and “role model”. The North African branch of Al-Qa’ida is particularly active in Algeria, Mauretania, Mali and Niger. The national coordinator of the fight against terrorism says that this exchange proposal may make Dutchmen in North Africa vulnerable for kidnapping.

Number of Cannabis Addicts More Than Doubles in Ten Years

The number of registered alcohol addicts – those who search for help from professional institutions – has increased since 2000 from just over 22,000 to 34,000. The Trimbos institute says that the number of addicts is far higher and that the greater majority does not seek help. The number of cannabis addicts seeking professional help has increased from 3,500 to 8,000. However, here also most users do not seek help. A new addiction in the past decade is the party drug GHB. The number of heroin addicts which seeks help declined from 16,000 to 12,000. This drug is increasingly going out of fashion.

Atmosphere of Intimidation in Christian Democrat Faction

An atmosphere of suspicion reigns in the parliamentary faction of the Christian Democrat party. The three parliamentarians, Minister Ab Klink, Ad Koppejan and Kathleen Ferrier, who object to collaboration with the Freedom party in the formation of a new government, have been accused by one of their colleagues, during an internal meeting, of ‘treason’ and ‘murder’ of the party. The three felt additional intimidation when the party chairman Henk Bleker announced during the meeting that he would evaluate what would happen if the three left the party and created a new faction.

Parents of Soldiers Killed by Friendly Fire Demand Criminal Investigation

The parents of two Dutch soldiers, Wesley Schol and Aldert Poortema, who were killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan at the beginning of 2008, have requested that the Public Prosecution start a criminal investigation into the incidents. The parents of the deceased are of the opinion that two commanders involved made major mistakes which should be criminally investigated.

Large Part of Protecting Dike Too Weak

A large part of the dike which protests the province of Groningen from the North Sea is not safe enough. An inspection of 66 kilometers of dike qualified as “insufficient” one third of the 66 kilometers. This is due, in part, to the increased security requirements today.

Three Major Parties: Send Criminal Antilleans Back to the Antilles

The VVD (Liberals), CDA (Christian Democrats) and the PVV (Freedom Party) want to send criminal Antilleans back to the Dutch Antilles. They are shocked by the many shooting incidents among this ethnic group. The three parties, which together have a small majority in parliament, consider that Antilleans who have little chance to get a job should not be admitted into the Netherlands any more. Parliamentarian Paul de Krom (VVD) said that the Netherlands has no need for problematic youngsters who do not contribute anything to Dutch society. The most recent example of violence was on Saturday night at an Antillean feast in Zoetermeer, when a 23-year old youngster was shot dead.

One and a Half Million Adults Can Hardly Read or Write

The Netherlands has started a week long drive to promote literacy. Despite a long standing battle against illiteracy, it turns out that amongst the almost 16.5 million inhabitants, one and a half million adults can hardly read or write. A study undertaken by Sitchting Lezen & Schrijven (Foundation for Reading and Writing) showed that 70% of the Dutch population do not feel that they need to make a contribution in solving this problem. The former Commissioner of the Queen for the province of Friesland said that during his term he had made a major effort to solve the problem in the province yet the problems remain in many places. He added that it was recently found that 23% of the personnel in the children’s day care centers in Amsterdam could hardly read or write.,buitenland

Australian Sheikh Calls for Beheading of Wilders

The Australian born Islamic cleric Sheikh Feiz Mohammad has, in a speech in Sydney, which also appears on his website, described Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch Freedom party, as “this Satan, this devil”. He added that Wilders should be beheaded for denigrating Islam. A few years ago Sheikh Feiz Mohammad had said that a rape victim had herself to blame because she was wearing “satanic skirts”. Wilders has called Islamic culture “retarded and violent”.

Dutch Dog Owners Prefer Their Animals to Their Partners

Research of the National Geographic channel has found that Dutch dog owners prefer their relationship with their dogs to that with their partners. The study was undertaken amongst 534 people who own at least one dog. The relationship with the dog received on average a rating of 8.5 out of 10 as opposed to a rating of 7.8 out of 10 for the relationship with partners. In 29% of the cases polled the dog sleeps in the bed of its owner. Almost half considers the dog as a full conversation partner. More than half of the respondents spend more than 3 hours a day with their dog.

900 Victims of Sexual Abuse in Dutch Roman Catholic Church Register

Former Minister Win Deetman is Chairman of the commission of investigation into sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church. He has announced that more than 900 victims have registered with the commission. Deetman said that he was greatly surprised that all these abuses have come to light only now as most took place years ago. He said that he was shocked about a variety of stories which had never come in to the open saying “I hear and read things which go beyond my comprehension. How can somebody do such things to children?”
