Number of Cannabis Addicts More Than Doubles in Ten Years

The number of registered alcohol addicts – those who search for help from professional institutions – has increased since 2000 from just over 22,000 to 34,000. The Trimbos institute says that the number of addicts is far higher and that the greater majority does not seek help. The number of cannabis addicts seeking professional help has increased from 3,500 to 8,000. However, here also most users do not seek help. A new addiction in the past decade is the party drug GHB. The number of heroin addicts which seeks help declined from 16,000 to 12,000. This drug is increasingly going out of fashion.
