After a four year investigation, MEP Paul van Buitenen has
concluded that the public prosecutor deliberately misled the judiciary on the
firework disaster at SE Fireworks in Enschede on May 13, 2000. Van Buitenen’s report consists of 800
pages. He concluded that the public prosecutor
did not want the government to be blamed, partly for the explosion. As a result, 23 people were killed and 950
were injured. Van Buitenen also concluded
that the fire brigade fought the fire in violation of the regulations and hazard
statements. He also says that the National
Detective Service who investigated the government services, deliberately omitted
a number of issues from their investigation.
