Complaints about street robberies in Amsterdam have been halved since the recent action against scooter drivers and youngsters in expensive cars. The police focused especially on Moroccan-looking youngsters. (Such ethnic profiling is common in the Netherlands.) In the campaign, code-named “Lord of the Ring,” 859 scooter riders were stopped and their personal data have been entered in a data bank. A hundred and eleven people suspected of various crimes were arrested, of whom 49 were criminals the police had been looking for.
