Many Schools Burned on New Year’s Eve

On New Year’s Eve several tens of schools in the Netherlands were set on fire as opposed to less than 10 on the same date last year. The main damage was due to heavy fireworks shot directly at the buildings. This was announced by a spokesman of the Achmea Insurance Company, which insures most of the schools. The estimated damage is 20-25 million Euro. In addition, alternate places must be found for the schools to be temporarily relocated. The spokesman stated that schools must increase preventive measures against fire by installing cameras and sprinklers.
