Amsterdam Transport Ticket is Illegal

Jacob Kohnstamm, chairman of the Council for the Protection of Personal Data (CPB), has said that the planned “smart card” ticket to be issued for Amsterdam’s public transport system is illegal. The chip on it contains personal data which are kept far too long, which is against the spirit of the law. The CPB also suspects that the data on the chip are insufficiently secure. The CPB says that use of the card could lead to high penalty payments by the Amsterdam municipal transport company
