Eric Brete, head of the protocol of the Government of Aruba, has threatened to beat up visiting Dutch Parliamentarian Hero Brinkman (Freedom Party). Brete said: “Aruba is not corrupt. I have to try hard to restrain myself from beating you up.” He was prevented from doing so by other Aruba government employees. Although Brinkman is part of a Dutch Parliamentary delegation, he decided not to submit a complaint. He said, “This is a naive man with the intelligence of a 4-year old child.” He added: “If he wants to beat me up, I’ll fight back. I served 23 years with the police.” Brinkman added that he thinks that the threat was a reaction to his statement that Aruba is “corrupt like hell.”
