Amsterdam: Segregation Increases

The ideal of mixed neighborhoods in Amsterdam is becoming more and more remote. Forecasts by the municipal department for research and statistics indicate increasing segregation. For instance, at present less than 60% of the population of the Geuzenveld-Slotermeer neighborhood consists of non-Western immigrants and their descendants. This is expected to reach nearly 80% by 2030. In the southeastern section of the city non-Western immigrants may account for about 65% of the population.
