Safety of Rail Infrastructure Declining

Due to poor maintenance the safety of the rail infrastructure is declining. This development is due to a shortage of competent mechanics. This was stated by the FNV Bondgenoten trade union after a survey among 1,200 railroad workers. More than half of them said that there are too few people to do maintenance. Many of the more competent mechanics have moved to other jobs, because they had to work more at night and over weekends. In many cases they been replaced by employees with no railway experience.
