The police have identified 1,800 youth gangs, of which 350 are responsible for major problems and regularly resort to violence. In addition there are 95 criminal youth gangs which are involved in armed robberies, extortion and drug trade. The others are involved in petty vandalism. Moroccans are disproportionately represented in the gangs. There is a great increase in multi-ethnic gangs.
