Infant Mortality in Netherlands Higher than in Many Other European Countries

Dutch infant mortality during pregnancy or the first few months after birth is 13.4%, which is higher than in many other European countries. The Minister of Health Ab Klink wants to fight this by promoting better prenatal care and encouraging women to take advantage of it. Klink says that non-western immigrants and poorly educated people are one of the areas where better information is needed. He also wants an investigation on how to attack the problem of more babies dying at night and on weekends in hospitals than during the day.
