Council Member Requests Clarification about Salafist Teaching

Utrecht Council Member Bert van der Roest (Labor) has requested that Utrecht Mayor Aleid Wolfsen investigate whether the Salafist courses being given in the town are legal. These courses are given by the Islamic Institute for Education, whose director is Suhayb Salam, the son of Imam Ahmad Salam. The journalist Patrick Pouw has written a book about the lessons he received during a year of study with Suhayb Salam. In each lesson Salam taught that non-believers should be hated. He also advised a student to burn a Christian Bible he had at home. The Dutch Intelligence Service (AIVD) considers Salafism an undemocratic and intolerant movement. www.nrc.nl/binnenland/article1077784.ece/
