A study by a department of the Ministry of Justice has
found that Dutch prison wardens are feeling increasingly unsafe. Two-thirds of them say that the budget
cutbacks of Deputy Minister Teeven have had “a negative” or “very negative”
impact on the workplace safety of prison employees. There is increasing violence on the part of
the inmates. In a radio program, several
wardens said that the shortage of personnel has led to an atmosphere of fear
among prison workers.
