During New
Year’s Eve, seven people were treated at the eye hospital in Rotterdam. Each one had an eye seriously damaged by
fireworks. The victims will either have
reduced vision or be completely blind in one eye. In some cases, an eye will even have to be
removed entirely. Eye doctor Tjeerd de
Faber said that there should be a government prohibition of consumer
fireworks. He said so in the name of the
Dutch Association of Eye Doctors.
