The Police Trade Union ANPV, says that policemen consider the traffic fines they have to give out far too high. They are ashamed about writing certain fines. These high fines often lead to aggression on the part of the traffic offenders. The police trade union has called on its members to protest against the high fines with Minister Ivo Opstelten of Security and Justice. The ANPV says that driving through a red light bears a 185 Euro fine, whereas stealing from a store bears a 50 Euro fine. A spokesman from the union says, “Nobody understands this and we cannot explain it.”
