A TV program of the NCRV broadcaster
claimed that one out of three Dutch retailers no longer complains to police
about theft or vandalism. This is based on an inquiry among more than 800 retailers.
These people believe that complaining to the police is a waste of time and that
the police discourage complaints. A spokesman of the organization Detailhandel
Nederland, recognizes the signals. He says, “Policemen say that complaints are
just filed, or that the perpetrators will not be found anyway.”
