Hospitals Claim Tens of Millions for Unnecessary Interventions

Hospitals submitted claims for treatments which are not medically necessary, and therefore cannot be claimed from insurers. This concerns amounts per year which vary between 50-180 million Euro. This involves more than 20,000 cosmetic surgeries such as the correction of eye lids and varicose vein removal. This was found by RTL news on the basis of an internal analysis by the Ministry of Public Health in 2012.
