One out of three people condemned with probation time, transgresses conditions the judge has imposed. This almost always remains unpunished. The reason for this is that these transgressions are not reported in time to the judges or the person condemned is not familiar with the conditions. In particular, people who have committed sexual or financial offenses act that way. The liberal and Christian democratic parties want clarification of this issue from the Deputy Minister of Justice.

More Dutch War Crimes in Indonesia being Discussed
A Dutch-Indonesian committee wants two Dutch former soldiers to be prosecuted for war crimes against the civil population committed in southern Sulawesi after 1946. They were part of the Dutch elite troops and have admitted their crimes on TV programs. One of the two said that he did not regret what he did. The complaint is brought on behalf of 6 Indonesian widows. Earlier the same committee brought a complaint against the still living Dutch soldiers who carried out the mass murder in the town of Rawagede on the island of Java. The committee has also requested from the prime minister to make public the report on the crimes of Dutch military against Indonesian civilians. The TV programs said that the then-Dutch government of Prime Minister Willem Drees has kept the report secret.

Policemen Kicked, Beaten and Bitten
Police trade unions ACP and NPB will investigate whether the Minister of Justice and Security and other authorities can be held responsible as an employer when policemen are attacked. This could lead to financial claims against the ministry on behalf of the attacked policemen. ACP Chairman Gerrit van de Kamp said that according to the law, employers have to see to it that the situation is as safe as possible when policemen act. However, this is often not the case. Violence against Dutch police remains high. During the past weekend in various places, policemen were kicked, beaten and bitten.

Minister: Caretakers should not help Violent Patients
Aggression and violence toward medical personnel is a serious problem in the Netherlands. In a report by Minister Edith Schippers of Public Health, it is written that caretakers and doctors should no longer be obligated to help violent patients. Schippers wants to rid society of the idea that such risks are part of the job. Complaints to the police should be registered, even if the suspect is a patient requiring treatment. Rapid justice should be introduced to deal with such cases and if the incident is found justified by the courts, damage has to be claimed. More than 6 million Euro have been reserved to deal with this problem, including training of personnel.

Roman Catholic Church Castrated at Least 10 Teenage Boys
The NRC Handelsblad daily has now exposed that at least ten teenage boys were surgically castrated ‘to get rid of homosexuality’ through the Roman Catholic Church in the 1950’s. These data are new and have not been included in the detailed inquiry by former Dutch minister Wim Deetman. He received 1,800 complaints of sexual abuse by clergy or volunteers within the Roman Catholic Church. It now seems that government inspectors were aware that minors were being castrated in Catholic institutions. The parents were not informed. It also emerged that the late Vic Marijnen, a former Dutch Prime Minister intervened to have prison sentences dropped against priests who were convicted of abusing children.

Catcalls at Dutch Crown Princess in Paris
There were many catcalls at the Dutch Crown Princess Maxima when she attended a concert by the famous Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Paris. Someone in the audience also shouted “long live the republic.” The Crown Princess is patroness of the orchestra. She did not hand out flowers at the end of the concert out of fear for renewed catcalls by the audience.www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1012/Nederland/article/detail/3227274/2012/03/18/Maxima-uitgejoeld-in-Parijse-concertzaal.dhtml?show=react

Dutch State-Funded T.V. offers anti-Semitic Game
Last month, the Dutch state-funded Liberal Protestant network VPRO uploaded a game to its website which is anti-Semitic. It features Israeli settlers who try to expand their communities and mine diamonds, allowing them to use the ‘Israeli stinginess’ card to force competitors to hand over resources, and an ‘Anne Frank card’ to colonize the West Bank. The instructions refer three times to the nation’s typical ‘mercantile spirit.’ Terrorist attacks are described as a natural result of settlement expansion. The VPRO said the game was ‘satirical.’ Dr. Shimon Samuels of the Simon Wiesenthal Center said that “It would be more likely as a product of neo-Nazis or Ahmadinejad.” The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science provides 89% of VPRO’s budget.

European Commission Wants Netherlands to Investigate Monitor of Complaints about Middle and Eastern Europeans
The European Parliament has drafted a resolution asking the Prime Minister Mark Rutte to condemn the Dutch Freedom Party monitor on complaints about middle and eastern Europeans on behalf of the Dutch government. It wants Rutte and his cabinet to distance himself of this regrettable initiative. This is stated in a draft resolution which will be brought before the Parliament. The European Commissioner for Justice and Human Rights Viviane Reding has said that the European Commission supports an investigation into this monitor which aims mainly at Poles. Rutte has no need to accept the resolution and has so far stated that this in an initiative of a political party and not of the government authorities.

Dutch Policemen Abandon Part of their Tasks
In their actions for higher salaries, police unions are for more than a week now, undertaking a variety of actions. In more and more parts of the Netherlands, they do not write tickets anymore for light traffic transgressions. They are now expanding their activities and will not appear in courts for several hours a week. Furthermore, they will publish on the website of the police unions where they do traffic controls. Also, police will not work overtime; recent studies have shown that policemen 350,000 times a year work longer hours than they are permitted by law. The unions have announced that they will continue their actions until a better salary offer is made by the minister in charge.

College Study Prepares Thousands for non-Existent Employment
Six years after a law was passed in 2006, it now turns out that colleges have continued to teach students a profession called Omgangskunde (Knowledge of Social Interaction) for which there is no professional employment. The changed law said that those with a degree in this profession can only teach this profession at schools. There is, however, only one school in the Netherlands which has this in its curriculum. The ministry never informed the colleges of the changed law. Many students now consider taking their colleges to court, while one of the colleges is considering suing the Ministry of Education.

Amsterdam Exports Criminals all over the Netherlands
Criminals on scooters find it increasingly difficult to rob people in Amsterdam. An interview with ‘scooter criminals’ showed that they prefer to go out of town for their crimes because in Amsterdam the police know who they are. Amsterdam remains mainly interesting for amateurs and desperate criminals. The daily De Pers interviewed several such criminals. One of them said that if jewelers do not collaborate with the robbers, they are also to blame when violence has to be used. The paper gave them fictional names: Jamal, Azmi and Rachid.

Minister Worried about Somalian Asylum Seekers
The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Gerd Leers (Christian Democrat) is very worried about the plans of Turkish airlines to start flying twice a week to the Somalian capital Mogadishu. He is afraid that more Somalian asylum seekers will enter the European Union via the poorly guarded border between Greece and Turkey. Leers said that he keeps an eye on the number of Somalian refugees in the Netherlands, but it is very difficult to find out how they arrived into the country.

Young Amsterdam Criminals Already Extremely Violent
Arno Julsing, head of the Amsterdam detective service said that even very young criminals are now involved in extreme violence. He said that one more or less human life doesn’t seem to matter to them. For these youngsters, only long-term punishments seem appropriate for them. Julsing said that common acting of all authorities can prevent that such role models will get followers.

Wilders: The Euro has Slowed Dutch Growth
The British research office Lombard Street Research has analyzed on behalf of the Freedom Party the possibility of the Netherlands returning to the guilder as well as the possibility of a separate currency for Northern Europe. According to the study, the introduction of the Euro has caused major losses in affluence in the Netherlands. In the past ten years, the Dutch economy has grown 1.25% annually, whereas in the twenty years before, annual growth was 3%. In the past ten years, annual growth in Sweden was 2.25% and in Switzerland, 1.75%. Party leader Wilders said that a return to the guilder would mean a loss on foreign assets of 51 billion guilders, but would save the Netherlands 75 million guilders to keep the Euro functional. He asked for a referendum about the issue.

U.S. Presidential Contender Santorum Attacks Netherlands on Euthanasia
U.S Republican Presidential contender Rick Santorum has claimed that 10% of all deaths in the Netherlands are a result of euthanasia and half of these people are euthanized involuntarily in Dutch hospitals. He added that the financial markets will punish those countries which do not respect the rules. Also, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was critical of the Netherlands. She said that there will be no special easing of the rules for the Netherlands. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that the Netherlands will have to respect the rules, but there is some flexibility in them.

Dutch Police only Solve Small Amount of Crimes
The Algemene Rekenkamer, (National Accounting Office) has concluded that only a small part of complaints with the police is investigated, leading to prosecutions and punishment by the judges. Out of 800,000 national complaints about violence or theft, more than 500,000 never arrived at the prosecution office. It is unclear why this is the case. Information about this is lacking. Also in files that the prosecution sends back to the police for more information, it is unclear what happens with them. There is a great discrepancy in opinion on how many cases do arrive at the courts. The police speak about 60,000 – the courts about 95,000. In some 50,000 cases, perpetrators are actually sentenced. Minister Opstelten of Security and Justice agrees with the conclusions of the report.
