Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan, is of the opinion that the societal climate in Amsterdam has become tougher in recent years. While the number of criminal acts is declining, violence is increasing. He opined that one suffers more from it. He also mentioned that about 600 youngsters have been arrested in the past five years approximately 15,000 times. This translates into about 25 arrests per person.
