Criticism of Liberal Leader for Allowing Holocaust Denial

Mark Rutte, the leader of the Liberal Party (VVD), has come out in favor of legislation to extend the laws of freedom of speech. According to Rutte, in this framework denying the Holocaust would not be punishable. Former VVD leader Hans Wiegel has called this proposal bizarre. Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen (Christian Democrats) called this statement an absolute “low” and said the man (Rutte) has “lost his way.” The leader of the Labor Party Wouter Bos said “I heard Rutte on TV saying that one can call out ‘Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas’ in a demonstration, but not in a mosque.”
