Buying Personal Credit Card Data at $5 Each

Fred Speijers, a prosecutor in charge of fighting fraud, said on the TV program “Zembla” that banks and credit card companies should be legally obliged to inform clients if their personal data have been stolen. Collaborators of the program bought credit card data of a number of people for $5 each. This could have enabled them to buy online without the card owner’s knowledge. The TV program showed that the security code of the MasterCard of the ING Bank can be easily circumvented.
