Criminal organizations which are involved in the large-scale cultivation of cannabis in the Netherlands will be special targets of the police in the coming years. Minister of Justice Ernst Hirsch Ballin (Christian Democrats) has written to Parliament saying that by 2011, the government wants to reach a visible reduction in the large-scale cultivation of cannabis. This is in addition to targeting those home growers who cause hindrance to their neighbors. Other police targets include human trade, abuse of real estate and the concentration of power of criminals in the center of Amsterdam.
