Authorities Neglected Psychiatric Problems of Suspected Murderer of Deputy Prime Minister

A year after the murder of former Dutch Deputy Prime Minister Els Borst, a suspect has been identified.  It now turns out that it was well-known that the man had psychological problems.  In 2012, the Rotterdam court sentenced him to three years in jail.  The court ruled that he should be arrested immediately, as he was a danger to society. Yet the suspect remained free until the 12th of January of this year, when he was arrested on suspicions of having killed his sister.  http://www.volkskrant.nl/binnenland/psychisch-probleem-verdachte-dood-els-borst-al-jaren-bekend~a3838775/

Dutch Railways Earned Millions by Transporting Jews to Death Camps

A new document has been found which shows that the Dutch state railways earned 2.5 million Euro during World War II for collaborating with the Germans in the transport of Jews to camps (adjusted for inflation, this translates into tens of millions of Euros).  Amsterdam professor Johannes Houwink ten Cate says that the railways discussed the transport of Jews with the Germans as late as 1944, when they knew that these people would be murdered.

Large Numbers of Kalashnikovs Found in Amsterdam

Amsterdam Police Commissioner in Chief, Pieter-Jaab Aalbersberg, has said that the Amsterdam police has confiscated 33 Kalashnikovs within the past four months.  In total, the Amsterdam police have confiscated 300 firearms in the past six months. Aalbersberg said that over the past few years the trade of heavy weapons in the Netherlands had not been a priority of the police. He believes that this has to change.  In the Netherlands, Kalashnikovs are very often used for gang killings.

Prison Wardens Feeling Increasingly Unsafe

A study by a department of the Ministry of Justice has found that Dutch prison wardens are feeling increasingly unsafe.  Two-thirds of them say that the budget cutbacks of Deputy Minister Teeven have had “a negative” or “very negative” impact on the workplace safety of prison employees.  There is increasing violence on the part of the inmates.  In a radio program, several wardens said that the shortage of personnel has led to an atmosphere of fear among prison workers.
