Heirs Accuse Restitution Commission of Bias with Kandinsky Painting

The Dutch Restitution Commission which deals with art stolen by the Nazis advised that the Amsterdam Municipal Museum in 2018 could keep a Kandinsky painting in their collection.  The original owner’s heirs have brought a court case against the Amsterdam municipality and the Municipal Museum. They are claiming that four of the seven commission members have a conflict of interest with the Municipal Museum. Stuart Eizenstat, US former Deputy Minister has said at an international congress that the Dutch decision in this case is totally opposed to the Washington Principles that determine which stolen artwork should be returned to its original owners or their heirs.
