Almost one-third of police employees
were either threatened or assaulted by civilians during work hours. Outside of the workplace, this was the case
for 14% of police employees. These
results are from research done among 3,000 employees by the Police Academy. Another study showed that one out of five
policemen who are involved in maintaining order and answering calls for emergency
help are met with threats and violence after work hours.
