Unemployment in the Netherlands is
rapidly growing. In March, 30,000 people lost their jobs. This is a further
acceleration compared to earlier months of this year when 20,000 people lost their
jobs. At present, 643,000 people, or 8.1% of the professional population which
wants to work, are without employment. Peter Hein van Mulligen, an economist of
the Central Bureau of Statistics said that the age group between 25 and 45 was
hit hardest in the past months. This group is the backbone of the professional
working force.
