Fireworks damage more Dutch eyes than the eye damage of American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan

Eye doctor Tjeerd de Faber of the Ophthalmic Society said that this year the eye damage due to fireworks is even worse than in previous years.  He claimed that over the years that New Years’ fireworks-related eye damage has been tracked, these two nights a year more eye damage has been caused by legal fireworks in the Netherlands than all 512 eye traumas reported by US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan over a four year period. In the past seven years, Dutch doctors have treated 1761 firework victims with 2140 damaged eyes, 743 eyes had lasting damage, 134 eyes were blinded and 63 eyes had to be removed.
