Researchers of various government bodies warn that a new
underclass of refugees is in the process of being created in Dutch society. In
it unemployment and criminality play a major role. The researchers undertook a study
of the integration of 33,000 asylum migrants. These arrived in the Netherlands
in the 1980s and 1990s and received residence permits. Many of them have been
unemployed for a long time. The researchers recommend that the government do
much more to help the current asylum migrants to find work, in order to avoid
similar problems. Asylum migrants with little education, such as those from
Somalia, have the greatest difficulty in finding work.
