Major Increase in Chronic Q Fever Expected

In 1-5% of patients who have acute Q Fever chronic Q Fever may develop. Q Fever is an infectious illness which passes from infected milk goats and milk sheep to humans. In the last four years, four thousand in the Netherlands had Q Fever. That means that between 40 – 200 people may develop chronic Q Fever. In 2010, seven people have died so far from chronic Q Fever.
