Amsterdam: One of Every Five Hotels has Bed Bugs

The extermination company Rentokil has said that about 20 percent of Amsterdam’s hotels have bed bugs. Hotel companies try to keep this as quiet as possible. A major problem was that last month there was no effective pesticide available, as the permit for the one used previously had expired and no new one had yet been approved.

Wilders: Political Elite Demonizing Me

Freedom Party Leader Geert Wilders has accused members of the Cabinet and the Parliament of demonizing him, and of creating a climate in which a madman might attack him. He mentioned that his party is very successful among homosexuals who daily feel the consequences of the Islamization of the Netherlands. These people do not want the intolerant Netherlands population which the political elite pushes on them.

Commission: Dutch Tolerance of Soft Drugs Unsustainable

A commission headed by Wim van de Donk, chairman of the Scientific Council for Government Policy, has concluded that the current policy on soft drugs in the Netherlands is unsustainable. The shops which sell these drugs are often owned by criminals and public health is in danger because the amount of active ingredient in marijuana and hashish has increased. The “coffee shops” which sell them should only supply local users and not become major distributors for drug tourists. In October 2008 the border towns of Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom decided to close down all “coffee shops” in view of the major problems caused by Belgian and French drug tourists.

Dutch Jails will House 500 Belgian Criminals

The Netherlands have agreed to jail 500 Belgian criminals. Belgium will pay 30 million Euro for this export project. The shortage of jails in Belgium is such that sentences of less than three years in jail are not carried out. Some of the condemned get electronic ankle bracelets for supervision; however, since there is also a shortage of the bracelets also, some go free with no supervision.

More Drug Tourists to Breda and Tilburg

The closure of a number of “coffee shops” in border towns has increased Belgian drug tourism in the towns of Breda and Tilburg. Researchers of the Institute for Security and Crisis Management discovered this in a study. If even a small percentage of the drug tourists would start visiting the only “coffee shop” in the small township of Etten-Leur, it could lead to major problems.
