Damning parliamentary inquiry report on high-speed train failure.
A parliamentary inquiry led by Madeleine van Toorenburg
(CDA) has published a damning report on the failure of the high speed train
from Amsterdam to Brussels. It mentions
that the main bodies responsible for the failure are the Dutch State Railways
(NS) and the various government members at the Ministries of Transport and
later Infrastructure and Environment.
The commission concluded that the interests of the traveler were
secondary to other issues. The state was
mainly interested in financial gain, the NS wanted to maintain its monopoly on
the railways. The report is entitled: “Traveler
in the Cold”. The report also says that
the government negotiated far from intelligently in its dealings with Belgium,
and that the Belgium and its railways have not acted as reliable partners.

Jewish Community Fears Arrival of Syrian and Iraqi Refugees to Jewish Neighborhoods
The
CJO, the umbrella body of Dutch Jewish organizations CJO and local Jewish
organizations in Amsterdam and Amstelveen are deeply concerned about the
security of the Jewish community on the occasion of the reception of Syrian and
Iraqi refugees in a building at Laan van Kronenburg in Amstelveen. The
organizations, indicate that the said center is located in the Jewish
infrastructure and therefore particularly unfortunate. Amsterdam-Buitenveldert
and the intended part of Amstelveen, are the only places in the Netherlands
with a visible or recognizable Jewish community with multiple synagogues,
Jewish schools, kosher restaurants and kosher shops and a Jewish cemetery. The CJO
mentions that most of the terrorist threat to Jewish institutions comes from
individuals and organizations from countries where the current asylum seekers
come from and where official channels are very negatively about Jews.

Senior Politician: Asylum-seekers Threaten our Prosperity.
Halbe Zijlstra, chairman of the Liberal Party (VVD) faction
in parliament, said that the influx of refugees is an acute threat to the Dutch
welfare state, and to its social services.
He says less people should come, and those arriving should be given far
less in the way of support. In this way “we
will prevent more people from coming to our country”. He added the run on the Netherlands has to be
stopped. “Social costs are increasing
and the housing market is in crisis, we cannot accept that. It is my duty as a politician to protect our
own levels of prosperity which we have worked so hard to achieve.” The VVD is the largest party in the
Netherlands. Prime Minister Rutte is its
leading politician.

PVV opens hotline for problems caused by asylum seekers
The PVV Freedom Party, led by Geert Wilders, has opened a
hotline where people can complain about problems caused by asylum-seekers. Wilders says that because the borders are
totally open, the government is importing tens of thousands of asylum seekers. Unfortunately, many Dutch citizens will
suffer problems from this. In 2012, the
PVV opened a similar hotline for problems caused by Poles, Romanians and
Bulgarians. The PVV party said at the time
that 40,000 complaints were received. Examples included complaints about drunkenness, noise and
parking issues.
