Within a period of four years, the theft of scooters and mopeds in the Netherlands has increased by a whopping 66%. In the first half of 2011, 7,632 were stolen, while less than a quarter were retrieved. The thieves are also becoming increasingly professional. The preferred scooters of the thieves are the Piaggio brand.
