In the past year and a half at least 56 Dutch aldermen have
been threatened. This results from a survey undertaken by the Assocation of
Aldermen. (Wethoudersvereniging). In addition 27 aldermen were subject to aggression
and violence whereas 109 were insulted. Of all these only 29 complained with the
police. Arne Werveling, the Chair of the Association stated that the number
of complaints is far too low in view of the large number of incidents. The
survey was sent to all 1500 aldermen, of which 480 answered.
