Amsterdam Police Action Halves Scooter Robberies

Complaints about street robberies in Amsterdam have been halved since the recent action against scooter drivers and youngsters in expensive cars. The police focused especially on Moroccan-looking youngsters. (Such ethnic profiling is common in the Netherlands.) In the campaign, code-named “Lord of the Ring,” 859 scooter riders were stopped and their personal data have been entered in a data bank. A hundred and eleven people suspected of various crimes were arrested, of whom 49 were criminals the police had been looking for.
