Due to Suspicious Luggage, Amsterdam Airport Evacuated

Amsterdam Airport and the adjacent Sheraton hotel were evacuated as armed police and the bomb squad patrolled the terminal, as some luggage had been determined to be suspicious.  One person was arrested for several hours.  It was later communicated that no dangerous materials had been found in the suspected person’s luggage.

Increase in female shoplifters

Detailhandel Nederland, an organization which represents the interests of Dutch retailers, says that more and more girls steal cosmetics, food and expensive electronic products from shops.  These are goods which can easily be put in a backpack or handbag.  For the first time since registration started, the numbers of male and female shoplifters aged under 25 years are equal.  A representative of the organization said that in this field, there is a faster emancipation for women than in any other area of criminal activity.  The data are based on 25,000 complaints to the police.

ID Obligatory Requirement at Swimming Pool after Problems with Asylum-Seekers

In view of sexual misbehavior by asylum-seekers at the Aquacentrum swimming pool in the town of Den Helder, the management has introduced an obligatory ID entry requirement.  Furthermore, the contact organization for asylum-seekers (COA) will see to it that one of its representatives is present in the swimming pool during the entire month of April.  CCTV surveillance will also be increased, and the police will try to identify the wrongdoers.

Once Again, Bus Drivers Attacked in the Netherlands

The bus company Connexxion is extremely worried about the safety of drivers and passengers.  Once again, stones were thrown at a bus, this time in Zaandam, and windows were shattered.  The bus route has been changed for the meantime, and there will be no buses going through the neighborhood.  The company spokesman said that unless action is taken by the municipality and the police, terrible things may happen in the future.  He mentioned that the authorities focus mainly on aggression and violence in trains.

Suicide attack by Dutch Jihadi Kills Fifty Syrian Soldiers in Damascus

According to Pieter Van Ostaeyen, a Dutch expert on jihadists in Syria, fifty Syrian soldiers were killed in a suicide attack by a Dutch jihadi.  The murderer was 24-year old Abu Mujahid al-Hulandi, also known as Anis Zerguit.  According to Van Ostaeyen, Zerguit’s brother was killed at the end of 2014 in the battle for the Syrian town of Kobani.

Increase in Sexual Abuse in Dutch Schools

The education inspectorate receives more and more complaints of sexual abuse in Dutch schools.  In the school year 2014-2015 there were 112 complaints, as against 86 one year earlier. Most complaints came from high schools. More than half of the cases concern major sexual harassment including rape, assault and lechery.  One in three complaints concern teachers or other school staff.  The inspectorate calls on schools to establish behavioral codes for teachers, general school staffers, and pupils.

Family members of Dutch Brussels terror victim may sue the airport

Family members of Elita Weah, who was murdered in the terror attack at Brussels Zaventem Airport may sue the airport for major negligence.  Her brother, Rasco Weah, said “the Belgians have killed my sister.  I’ll fight back.”  The Belgian airport police said that the airport favored commercial interests over human lives, and that the Brussels Airport Company (BAC) neglected recommendations to improve security.
