More People Interested in Emigrating from the Netherlands

This year the annual emigration fair will draw at least 50% more visitors than last year. Frans van Houten, director of the fair, says that this is probably due to the major debate over the proposed movie “Fitna” by Freedom Party leader, Geert Wilders. He said that when Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh were murdered there were similar increases. People often want to leave the Netherlands due to societal developments.

The Indonesian Council of Christian Churches has asked the Protestant Church (PKN) in the Netherlands to convey its concerns to the Dutch Government and Freedom Party Leader Geert Wilders. The Council fears that there may be arson, violence and intimidation against Christians when Wilders’ announced movie about the Quran, incitement and violence is broadcast. The churches are also afraid that the movie might lead to the end of the dialogue between Christians and moderate Muslims.

Dutch Missionaries in Arab World Worried About Quran Movie

The Dutch Christian mission organizations in the Arab world are concerned about the possible effects of the announced movie by Freedom Party Leader Geert Wilders on the Quran, incitement and violence. Tax Authorities Unable to Collect Proposed Taxes

Deputy Minister of Finance Jan Kees de Jager (Christian Democrat) says that the collection of new taxes which were agreed upon by the Government coalition partners cannot be carried out by the tax authorities. He stated that the Tax Authority’s computer problems make it impossible to carry out the proposed changes in the pension law or the announced car tax based on the number of kilometers driven.

Afghans Shout “Death to the Netherlands” and Burn Dutch Flags

Eight hundred demonstrators in the northern Afghani town Mazar-i-Sharif have protested against ‘insults against Islam’ by Danish papers and the proposed documentary on the Quran, violence and incitement by Dutch PVV party leader Geert Wilders. The demonstrators shouted ‘Death to Denmark and death to the Netherlands.’ NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer has also expressed his concern about the consequences of the movie as regards the 50,000 NATO soldiers and Dutch businesses around the world.
