Dutch Soccer Association (KNVB): Proof of Game Fixing

The Dutch Soccer Association (KNVB) has now confirmed that in 2009, a premier league game between Utrecht and Willem II was fixed.  This is the first time that this has happened at such a high level.  The KNVB says that a Singaporean, who has been fixing games worldwide, was behind the fixing of this particular match.  The key player involved was Ibrahim Kargbo, from Sierra Leone, who was playing on the Willem II team at the time.  He is suspected of having involved two other Willem II players.  The KNVB considers it probable that a game between Willem II and the national team of Sierra Leone was also fixed.

Prime Minister: Insults against Soccer Player are Nauseating

At a darts game in Newcastle UK, spectators held up placards worded with texts such as “Kenneth NSB” and “Kenneth Vermeer should hang.” The NSB was the Dutch collaborator party during the German  Nazi occupation. Vermeer is a Dutch soccer player currently with Feyenoord Rotterdam, and previously of Ajax, Amsterdam.  The pictures were shown on Dutch TV.  Earlier at a game between Feyenoord and Ajax, the player had been hanged in effigy.  Prime Minister Rutte called the attacks on Vermeer nauseating.

Members of Special Police Unit Fear that their Shields are No Good

Members of the Dutch police and army rapid response teams are concerned that their shields are not strong enough to fend off shots from heavy automatic weapons.  Their French colleagues discovered that such bullets penetrated their shields when they stormed the Paris Bataclan theater when it was occupied by terrorists.  The Socialist Party has asked the Minister of Justice and Security, Ard van der Steur, to clarify the matter.

Local Labor Party Chairman has to Leave after Wishing Wilders Dead

Willem den Hertog, Chairman of the Labor Party in Katwijk, has tweeted “we all hope that Wilders dies from a heart attack in his bed, whether or not between the legs of a left-wing parliamentarian.”  He added that if Wilders were to be killed by a bullet, it should be large enough to be engraved with the words “from the grateful Dutch people.”  After the local and national Labor Party condemned his words, den Hertog resigned.

Asscher attacks haters on facebook

Deputy Prime Minister Lodewijk Asscher receives daily hate mail via social media.  His Jewish descent on his father’s side is a particular source of vilification.  He has been called a “Zionist dog who prefers to creep into a Muslim cave rather than stand behind his own people.”  He has been compared to his great-grandfather who served the Germans in the Jewish Council during the occupation of the Netherlands.  Asscher has now attacked his haters on facebook.

Approximately 250 illegal marriages between children every year

A survey undertaken by Maastricht University and the Verwey-Jonker Institute found that every year about 250 illegal marriages are conducted between children.  The researchers say that it is very difficult to get exact figures because these marriages take place in closed communities.  Of the 500 child marriages in 2013 and 2014, about 160 took place between asylum seekers.  In particular in the Somalian community, such marriages happen relatively frequently.

Many Parties Demands Drastic Measures against Inflow of More Asylum Seekers

In a parliamentary debate, various political parties came out against accepting a massive additional influx of asylum seekers.  A majority considers that the current influx exceeds society’s ability to absorb newcomers, and that the cabinet has to take “unorthodox” measures in order to restrict further immigration, either in the national or in the general Western European context.  One of the parties supporting these demands is Prime Minister Rutte’s Liberals Party (VVD).  The Netherlands currently chairs the EU for its half-year term.
