Professor Cyrille Fijnaut, a leading Dutch criminologist,
has said that those who conceived and implemented the re-organisation of the
National Police are incompetent and should be fired. He added: “why would the people who came up
with the wrong plans and then executed them inadequately not be replaced? Is it possible that they would excel in the
future in activities where so far they have obviously proved unsuccessful?” Former chief commissioner of the Amsterdam
police, Joop van Riessen, reserves his criticism for Minister of Security and
Justice, Ard van der Steur . He says
those mainly responsible for the problems in the national police are
politicians. He added “the Minister
wants to deflect attention away from his own failures.”
