Secret Report: Continued Existence of Air France and KLM in Danger

A secret report ordered by the French and Dutch trade unions of Air France-KLM found that the continued existence of the firm is in danger.  This is due to the huge differences in culture between the French and the Dutch. One KLM manager was quoted saying that “France is a kind of Greece, but bigger.”  He was also quoted as saying that “the French economy is a time bomb and Air France is a smaller time bomb.”

4 Dutch Soldiers arrested in Lithuania after brawl

4 Dutch soldiers have been sent back from Lithuania to the Netherlands after they were arrested when they got into a brawl. Lithuania media report that the men had been drinking.  The dispute may have arisen from an unpaid bill.  About 270 Dutch soldiers are stationed in Lithuania as part of a NATO Mission.  These soldiers helped to improve the defense of the country against potential Russian aggression.  

Comment:  That is the case except when they are drinking!

Violence against Prison Staff on the Rise

In 2016 there were 1880 cases of violence by prisoners against Dutch prison staff. This was an increase of 20% over 2015. In psychological institutions the number of such incidents increased to 133 in 2016 from 86 in 2015.

Dutch Government Overspent on Freelancers

The Dutch government has been calling on firms to reduce the amount of part-timers yet the government doesn’t have its own house in order.  About 13% of government staffing budgets were paid to consult with freelancers and consultants.  This was an increase of 19% from previous years.  The most extreme spender was the tax office, followed by the infrastructure and environment ministry and the justice ministry.  A trade union representative of the FNV trade union said that the situation was disappointing and worrying.

ISIS calls for terrorist attack at European Female Soccer Championship

  

ISIS has called lone wolves to carry out an attack during the European Female Soccer Championship in Utrecht.  More specifically it calls for an attack on July 19^th at the game between England and Scotland.  The Dutch Intelligence Services do not consider this threat very seriously.

Asylum Seekers Caught For Theft Almost Never Pay Fine

In the Netherlands, people who are caught for theft in a shop have to pay 181 Euro to the owner of the shop.  However, only one out of 20 asylum seekers caught for theft pays this fine.  The official body, Central Organ Receptions for Asylum Seekers (COA), says that it cannot deduct this payment from the government money the asylum seekers receive.  In order to do so, the government would have to change the rules.

Databank: 45 percent of Dutch Jihadis are of Moroccan origin

A databank of The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies contains profiles of 207 of the 280 Dutchmen which have left for Syria until june 2017. Forty five percent have a Moroccan-Dutch background, ten percent a Turkish-Dutch background. About 17% are converts, while coverts are less than 3% of the entire Muslim community in the Netherlands.
