Fifty six percent of all mayors in the province of
Gelderland have suffered from aggression in 2016. The main aggression was scolding followed by threats
and intimidation and in a small number of cases physical attacks. One of the subjects which caused many
incidents concerned financial cutbacks in caretaking of the elderly. In addition, the problems of refugees and
possible asylum seeker centers led to aggression. Not all threatened
politicians complained to the police.
