A court has ordered the public prosecution to carry out a criminal
investigation into earthquake damage caused by natural gas extraction by the
NAM company in Groningen. NAM is a joint
venture between Shell and Exxon Mobil. A
lawyer who represents people whose home has been damaged by earthquakes
resulting from the gas extraction claimed that if there is evidence that senior
NAM officials knew about the damage they could face up to 15 years in jail.
