Number of Dutch Tourists getting Rabies abroad doubles

This year the crisis center SOS International was contacted 136 times by Dutch tourists abroad claiming to have become sick with rabies. In 106 cases this diagnosis was confirmed by physicians. Last year the number of such contacts with SOS International was about half of the number of this year. In 2013 the number of contacts was only 21 of which 16 were confirmed as patients with rabies by physicians. If the sickness is not treated in time it can be lethal. SOS International has no explanation for the increase in the number of cases.
