Minister of Infrastructure and Environment Melanie Schultz
van Haegen says that a quarter of ground water in the Netherlands, from which
drinking water is extracted, contains too high or nearly too high levels of
pesticides. She called it “cause for concern.” The substances found in the
ground water mostly involved herbicides and breakdown products. The minister
pointed out that in ground water contamination can take a long time and may
manifest for many years after use. In a letter to parliament she mentions
measures taken and to be taken to reduce the problem..
