Doctors Warn: Assisted Suicide in the Netherlands is Out of Control

UK Doctor Peter Saunders of the Christian Medical Fellowship said that the Dutch experience shows that doctor-assisted death is impossible to effectively regulate.  He added that, “euthanasia in the Netherlands is virtually out of control.”  Overall deaths by euthanasia have increased by 151% in seven years.  The Dutch regulator, Theo Boer, says that it is likely to hit the 6,000/year mark in 2014. These figures represent 3% of all deaths, but if one adds the cases of terminal sedation, where patients are given a cocktail of sedatives and narcotics before food and fluids are withdrawn, the percentage rises to 12.3% of all deaths in the Netherlands.
