In the southern part of Amsterdam, there are many brown rats. A woman who lives on a square there told a newspaper that she had seen 30 rats on the square where she lives. She said: “I understand that there are rats in Amsterdam, but the number of them is absurd. They cause me nightmares.”The municipality has not done anything to combat the situation. A bar tender at a café in the square said that he has now seen rats crossing the square for the last 8 months. A spokesman for the neighborhood council said that they are going to deal with the problem in November.
