The Platform Detailhandel Nederland, which represents all Dutch shopkeepers, has called for the rapid establishment of a national police unit to deal with exposing criminal gangs which rob shops. In 2007 at least a thousand shops were robbed, mainly by gangs from Poland, Bulgaria, Rumania and Lithuania. They stole merchandise valued at 220 million Euro which is almost a third of the 700 million Euro value of goods stolen by shoplifters in the last year.www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland
