Dutch Historian Michael Riemens has
published the diaries of Dutch Foreign Minister in exile in London during World
War II, Eelco van Kleffens. In it is
mentioned that the Queen asked van Kleffens during the war to propose via the
Vatican that the Belgian royal family held by the Nazis would be released by them
in exchange for helping high placed Nazis to escape after the war.
